Solving Queensland's Trilemma

The Council Of Australian Governments (COAG) have accepted 49 of the 50 recommendations made in the final report of the Finkel Review into Australia’s National Energy Market (NEM), including the need for battery storage of electrical energy, to ensure integrity of the grid network.

In the weeks that followed publication of these recommendations, federal minister for energy and environment Hon Josh Frydenberg MP frequently referred to key energy security challenges as a “trilemma” where policymakers must have regard to ensuring: energy security; downward pressure on electricity prices; and Paris Accord carbon dioxide emissions targets.

One would be excused for assuming these are competing factors...
